Migrating From Pingdom, in Practice

1. Port the monitors

Most Pingdom monitors map 1:1 to StatusDrift monitor types — HTTP/HTTPS checks, DNS, SSL. Define them via the dashboard, the REST API, or the Terraform provider. You can run both tools in parallel during cutover so there’s no observability gap.

2. Reconnect alert channels

Attach Slack, Teams, PagerDuty, Opsgenie, or any of our 20 notification channels to each monitor. Or, for critical services, hand the alert off to a calendar-based on-call policy — the rotation lives in StatusDrift if you don’t already have one elsewhere.

3. Stand up a status page

Questions Teams Switching From Pingdom Ask

Do we have to drop PagerDuty if we use StatusDrift’s on-call?

No. StatusDrift integrates with PagerDuty and Opsgenie natively, so you can keep your existing rotations there and route incidents to them. Use StatusDrift’s built-in on-call for services that don’t already have a paging home, or mix both per monitor.

Can we monitor internal endpoints?

Two paths. If the endpoint can be narrowly exposed, allowlist our published check IPs at your firewall — same pattern as Pingdom. For fully private services with no inbound public exposure, install the StatusDrift agent inside your network and it reaches the endpoint locally, reporting back outbound.

How do we handle SLAs and uptime reports?

Define an SLA policy with an uptime target and a window (calendar week, month, rolling 30 days, or calendar year); StatusDrift tracks uptime %, error-budget usage, burn rate, and compliance status per monitor. Prefer your own dashboard? Pull check results and incident timestamps via REST API and feed Grafana or BigQuery alongside.

What about SMS alerts?

StatusDrift doesn’t send SMS or voice directly. Route through PagerDuty, Opsgenie, or any incident-platform integration and their carrier paging handles it. For most modern teams, chat + mobile push already covers the 3am page without a carrier bill.
