StatusDrift integrates with Google Chat to deliver monitoring alerts directly to your team’s chat spaces. This guide explains how to configure the Google Chat integration to receive notifications when your services experience issues.
What This Integration Does
The Google Chat integration sends messages to your configured space when:
- A monitored service goes down or becomes degraded
- A service recovers and returns to normal status
- SSL certificates are approaching expiration
- Performance thresholds are exceeded
Prerequisites
Before configuring the Google Chat integration, ensure you have:
- A StatusDrift account with at least one monitor configured
- A Google Workspace account with access to Google Chat
- Permission to add webhooks to your Google Chat space
Step 1: Create a Google Chat Webhook
First, create a webhook in Google Chat to receive StatusDrift notifications:
- Open Google Chat and navigate to the space where you want to receive alerts
- Click the space name at the top to open space settings
- Select Apps & integrations
- Click Add webhooks
- Enter a name for the webhook (e.g., “StatusDrift Alerts”)
- Optionally add an avatar URL for the webhook
- Click Save
- Copy the webhook URL that is displayed
Step 2: Add the Google Chat Channel in StatusDrift
Now configure the integration in your StatusDrift dashboard:
- Log in to your StatusDrift account at app.statusdrift.com
- Navigate to Notification Channels in the sidebar
- Click Add Channel
- Select Google Chat from the integration type dropdown
- Enter a descriptive name for this channel (e.g., “DevOps Google Chat”)
- Paste the webhook URL you copied from Google Chat
- Click Save to create the channel
Step 3: Assign to Monitors
Connect the notification channel to your monitors:
- Go to Monitors in the sidebar
- Select the monitor you want to receive Google Chat notifications
- Scroll to the Notification Channels section
- Check the box next to your Google Chat channel
- Save the monitor configuration
Testing the Integration
Verify your Google Chat integration is working:
- Go to Notification Channels
- Find your Google Chat channel in the list
- Click the Test button
- Check your Google Chat space for the test message

Troubleshooting

- Google Chat webhooks can expire if not used for extended periods
