Understanding Uptime and Response Time

StatusDrift tracks two key metrics for every monitor: uptime percentage and response time. Understanding these metrics helps you maintain reliable services.

Uptime Percentage

Uptime is the percentage of time your service was available during a given period. For example, 99.9% uptime means your service was down for only about 8.7 hours per year.

Common uptime targets:

  • 99% uptime = 3.65 days downtime per year
  • 99.9% uptime = 8.7 hours downtime per year
  • 99.99% uptime = 52 minutes downtime per year
  • 99.999% uptime = 5 minutes downtime per year

Response Time

Response time measures how quickly your service responds to requests. Lower is better. StatusDrift tracks average, minimum, and maximum response times.
