If you notice requests from StatusDrift in your server logs or analytics, this page explains what our monitoring service is and why you might see it.
Our User Agent String
StatusDrift monitoring requests identify themselves with the following user agent:
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; StatusDrift/1.0; https://statusdrift.com/user-agent)
This user agent follows the standard bot format, identifying our service name, version, and a URL where you can learn more about our monitoring requests.
Why Am I Seeing StatusDrift in My Logs?
There are two common reasons why you might see StatusDrift requests in your server logs or analytics:
- Your website is being monitored – Someone has added your website to StatusDrift for uptime monitoring. This could be you, your hosting provider, or a colleague.
- A monitored site links to yours – If another website being monitored by StatusDrift contains links to your site, our service may check those links as part of broken link detection.
Request Frequency
StatusDrift is designed to be respectful of your server resources. Our monitoring requests are lightweight and typically occur at intervals ranging from 1 to 30 minutes, depending on the monitor configuration. For most websites, this amounts to minimal traffic that should not impact performance.
Verifying StatusDrift Requests
To confirm that a request is genuinely from StatusDrift:
- Check the user agent – It should match the string shown above
- Verify the IP address – Compare against our published IP list in the IP Whitelisting for StatusDrift article
- Check reverse DNS – Our server IPs resolve to *.statusdrift.com
Note: User agents can be spoofed, so IP verification is the most reliable method to confirm legitimate StatusDrift traffic.
Filtering StatusDrift from Analytics
If you want to exclude StatusDrift from your website analytics, most analytics platforms allow you to filter traffic by user agent. Create a filter that excludes requests containing “StatusDrift” in the user agent string.
