A common concern among StatusDrift users is whether our monitoring affects website analytics. The short answer is: StatusDrift has minimal to no impact on your analytics, but understanding how it works helps you interpret your data correctly.
How StatusDrift Monitors Your Site
StatusDrift performs HTTP/HTTPS requests to check if your site is up and responding. These requests:
- Fetch the HTML content of your monitored URL
- Do NOT execute JavaScript
- Do NOT load images, CSS, or other assets
- Do NOT store or send cookies (by default)
- Use a distinct, identifiable user agent
Impact on Different Analytics Platforms
Google Analytics (GA4 / Universal Analytics)
Impact: None
Google Analytics requires JavaScript execution to track visitors. Since StatusDrift doesn’t execute JavaScript, our monitoring requests:
- Never trigger the GA tracking code
- Don’t appear in your visitor count
- Don’t affect bounce rate, session duration, or other metrics
Adobe Analytics
Impact: None
Like Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics relies on JavaScript execution. StatusDrift requests won’t appear in your Adobe Analytics reports.
Server-Side Analytics (Log-Based)
Impact: Visible in logs
If you use server-side analytics that analyze access logs (AWStats, Webalizer, GoAccess, etc.), StatusDrift requests WILL appear because they’re actual HTTP requests hitting your server.
You can filter them out by:
- Excluding our user agent:
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; StatusDrift/1.0; https://statusdrift.com/user-agent) - Excluding our IP addresses (see IP Whitelisting)
Cloudflare Analytics
Impact: Visible in requests count
Cloudflare counts all HTTP requests, including monitoring traffic. You’ll see StatusDrift requests in:
- Total requests count
- Bandwidth statistics
- Bot traffic reports (often correctly identified)
Cloudflare’s Web Analytics (the JavaScript-based version) is unaffected since it requires JavaScript execution.
Plausible, Fathom, Simple Analytics
Impact: None
These privacy-focused analytics tools use JavaScript tracking, so StatusDrift monitoring doesn’t affect them.
Matomo (Piwik)
Impact: Depends on configuration
- JavaScript tracking: No impact
- Log analytics: StatusDrift requests will appear. Configure bot filtering to exclude our user agent.
Impact on Other Metrics
Server Resource Usage
StatusDrift monitoring does consume minimal server resources:
- 1-minute checks: ~1,440 requests per day per monitor
- 5-minute checks: ~288 requests per day per monitor
For most websites, this is negligible. However, if you’re monitoring many URLs at high frequency, consider the cumulative effect.
Bandwidth Usage
Each monitoring request downloads your page’s HTML content. Typical impact:
- Average HTML page: 50-200 KB
- 1-minute monitoring: 70-280 MB per month per monitor
- 5-minute monitoring: 14-56 MB per month per monitor
This is usually insignificant compared to regular traffic, but worth noting for bandwidth-limited hosting plans.
Cache Hit/Miss Ratios
StatusDrift requests may affect your cache statistics:
- Requests typically result in cache HITS if your page is cached
- Won’t artificially warm your cache (we don’t follow links or load assets)
- May slightly skew cache hit ratios in your analytics

Best Practices
- Use dedicated health check endpoints – Monitor a simple /health or /status endpoint instead of your homepage to minimize resource usage
- Configure appropriate check intervals – 5-minute checks are sufficient for most sites and reduce server load
- Filter bots in server analytics – If using log-based analytics, set up proper bot filtering
- Monitor lightweight pages – Avoid monitoring pages that generate reports or perform heavy database queries
