Escalation Policies

Ensure Alerts Never Go Unnoticed

Define what happens when alerts aren’t acknowledged. Escalate through channels and team members until someone responds.

Smart Alert Escalation

The first responder might be unavailable. Escalation policies ensure that if one person doesn’t respond, the alert escalates to the next level until someone takes action.

  • Multi-level escalation — Define multiple escalation steps
  • Time-based triggers — Escalate after 5, 10, 15 minutes without acknowledgment
  • Channel escalation — Start with Slack, escalate to SMS, then phone call
  • Team escalation — Notify backup on-call, then team lead, then manager

Example Escalation Flow

0 min: Slack

5 min: Primary

If not acknowledged, SMS sent to on-call.

10 min: Backup

Escalate to backup on-call via SMS and call.

15 min: Team Lead

Escalate to team lead and notify entire team.
